Today I’ll be providing an overview of what’s required in order to use BlackBerry Protect and will include some useful links where you can get more information on how to set up and use BlackBerry Protect.

What’s required to use BlackBerry Protect?

The first requirement is to ensure that you are using a BlackBerry smartphone with BlackBerry® Device Software 4.6 or later. To find out which version of BlackBerry device software you have, please review the knowledge base article “How to check the version of the BlackBerry Device Software installed on the BlackBerry smartphone”. The second requirement is to ensure that you have an active BlackBerry® Internet Service data plan that supports BlackBerry Protect. If you aren’t sure which data plan you are on, please contact your wireless service provider for clarification.

The final requirement is to ensure that the BlackBerry smartphone is not activated on BlackBerry® Enterprise Server or BlackBerry® Enterprise Server Express. To see if your BlackBerry smartphone is activated on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server product, complete the following steps:

1. Select Options from the home screen
2. Complete the following based on which version of BlackBerry Device Software you using:
– BlackBerry Device Software 4.x & 5.x – Select Advanced Options, then Enterprise Activation
– BlackBerry® 6 – Select Device, then Advanced System Settings, followed by Enterprise Activation
3. If you are using BlackBerry Device Software 4.x or 5.x, review the Status field to determine if your BlackBerry smartphone is activated on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server product.
4. If you are using BlackBerry 6, review the Activated Accounts field as per the screenshots below to determine if the BlackBerry smartphone is active on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server product.
